The Double-Sided Handwoven Carpet
Acknowledgment: Congratulations on being one of the pioneer innovators who have obtained the IFIA Innovation Standard certificate (IIS).
Following your inquiry for an IIS certification, the jury board evaluated your application according to the criteria. And after the assessment and examinations, your innovation was granted with IFIA Innovation Standard Grade B.
IFIA hopes that by having this certification, you will take an essential step in the commercialization of your innovation. Also, by entering international markets, you can contribute to the realization of the global slogan: Generating wealth through innovative knowledge.
The Summary of Innovation:
This invention introduces a new type of double‑sided handwoven carpet in which each side features a distinct texture, pattern, and visual design. The structure includes warp, thin weft, thick weft, and pile knots, while the innovation lies in arranging the warps as two front and two back layers and using both Persian (asymmetric) and Turkish (symmetric) knots. This technique allows a single weaver, working from one direction, to create two different designs simultaneously one side with pile and the other without unlike conventional double‑sided carpets that have pile on both sides.
The resulting carpet is more durable, flexible, lustrous, visually appealing, and resistant to wear. It supports a wide variety of designs and colors and can also be adapted for machine production. Combining artistic creativity with structural innovation, this invention has practical applications in handmade carpet production, the carpet industry, and related handicraft sectors.

Why is this innovation eligible to receive the IIS certification?
This invention meets the IFIA Innovation Standard because it introduces a new weaving technique that does not exist in current carpet‑making methods. By using a unique arrangement of two front and two back warps together with both Persian and Turkish knots, it enables the creation of a double‑sided carpet with two completely different textures one side pile and the other pileless which is a clear technical innovation.
The method also increases production efficiency, since a single weaver can create both sides at the same time and from one direction. The resulting carpet offers higher durability, flexibility, luster, and wear resistance, and can also be adapted for machine production, giving it strong commercial potential. These technical, practical, and industrial advantages align with IFIA Innovation Standard criteria for originality, added value, scalability, and impact, making the invention deserving of the certification.
