Kuwait Science Club Held the 14th International Invention Fair of the Middle East
The 14th edition of the International Invention Fair of the Middle East (IIFME), held from February 4th to 7th, 2024, was meticulously organized by the Kuwait Science Club under the esteemed Patronage of His Highness, the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Collaborating with prestigious entities such as the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), UNESCO, and the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, this event garnered significant attention at local, regional, and international levels.
The convention served as a unique platform, emphasizing the ingenuity and creativity of both youths and universities, while concurrently showcasing the advancements in inventions and innovations. Furthermore, it played a pivotal role in highlighting Kuwait’s modernity and its commitment to fostering and supporting inventors and participants in the realm of public service.
During the opening and closing ceremonies, IFIA President Alireza Rastegar was in attendance alongside participants, ministers, and distinguished guests. Notably, the event saw participation from numerous countries, ministers, establishments, authorities, and companies, further enhancing its global significance.
The 14th IIFME successfully united 40 countries, including the United Kingdom, USA, Switzerland, China, Spain, Thailand, Egypt, Qatar, Iran, Iraq, and Kuwait. With over 200 inventions on display, the exhibition attracted a multitude of investors and private sector visitors.
In recognition of outstanding inventions, the Kuwait Science Club conferred Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals to inventors chosen by the juries. Additionally, special awards from IFIA, UNESCO, and GCCPO were presented to the best inventions in specific categories.
The grand prize of the IIFME was awarded to the Egyptian inventor, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sherbini, for his groundbreaking work in nanotechnology, specifically continuous vasodilation. Dr. Al-Sherbini’s second invention, an environmentally friendly, long-lasting, biodegradable urea fertilizer, also contributed to his accolades. This recognition underscored the global impact of his work.
Addressing the audience during the award ceremony, Mr. Talal Al-Kharafi, Chairman of the Kuwait Science Club and the Organizing Committee of IIFME, expressed that the patronage of His Highness the Amir reflects the leadership’s unwavering support for creativity and invention. Al-Kharafi emphasized Kuwait’s significant role in promoting the culture of invention and innovation, stating that the event has evolved into one of the most prominent international exhibitions, particularly in the Middle East, since its inception in 2007.
He further highlighted the increasing participation of countries as indicative of the IIFME’s influence as a platform for economic opportunities, encouraging the exchange of ideas on inventions and facilitating connections with potential investors, ultimately transforming these innovations into marketable products that benefit society and contribute to overall development.
