IFIA-ABIPIR organized a grant funding training for innovators in Brazil to support startups and researchers.
The event brought together Startup Inventors, Entrepreneurs, and Academic Researchers eager to seek knowledge because, however innovative an invention or project may be, they do not achieve success without financial resources.

Aligned with the guidelines of IFIA, led by President Alireza Rastegar, ABIPIR has been contributing to the success of thousands of Inventors, Scientists, and Entrepreneurs over its 15 years.

The Startup Day – Sebrae held in Vilhena – Rondônia, Brazil, an event that takes place simultaneously in several cities throughout Brazil, addressed the theme of the journey of raising funds – what really increases your chances of approval.

The Director of the Latin American Office of IFIA-ABIPIR, Marcelo Vivacqua, was the speaker at the Startup Day organized by Sebrae – the Brazilian Service for Support to Micro and Small Businesses in Vilhena, a municipality with a thriving economy, talented entrepreneurs, and a population that offers a warm welcome to both Rondônia residents and visitors. The experience reinforced something essential: raising funds for innovation goes far beyond technique; it requires mindset, strategy, and discipline.

ABIPIR will be celebrating 15 years of activities focused on the personal and professional development of Inventors, Scientists, and Entrepreneurs by providing free space for them to present their innovations at InnovaCities – International Fair of Smart, Cheerful, Humane, and Resilient Cities, through training such as the one that took place in Vilhena, international representation of Startups, companies, and Science, Technology, and Innovation institutions, among others.

Emerson Pinduca, business analyst and innovation interlocutor at Sebrae in Vilhena, brings in his speech the perspective that there is no lack of money, but rather a search for guidance on the part of entrepreneurial society. He also added that the participation of President Vivacqua guided, framed, and expanded the possibilities for the startups present to leverage their solutions more quickly. His presence in Vilhena was invaluable.

Vilhena was on the map of action for Startup DAY 2026 and could count on the valuable contribution of the President of ABIPIR, Marcelo Vivacqua, who was able to demonstrate to the entrepreneurs present the world of possibilities for putting their ideas into action through the calls for proposals.

The raising of non-refundable funds begins long before submission and ends long after approval. This was one of the central messages of the lecture: successful projects are not born from one-off opportunities, but from a structured mindset of continuous preparation. Thinking like a fundraiser means developing projects even before the calls for proposals open, organizing evidence, structuring methodologies, and aligning the proposal with public policies. Those who wait for the call for proposals to open are scrambling, those who are prepared have a head start.

One of the most provocative points was the deconstruction of myths that still discourage good projects. It is not true that only large companies are approved, nor that the process is political or unfeasible. The evaluation is technical, based on objective criteria and adherence to the call for proposals. Another recurring myth is believing that the project needs to be perfect: in practice, what is sought is maturity appropriate to the level of technological development and clarity in execution. Rejection does not mean failure, but rather valuable strategic feedback for the evolution of the proposal.

From the evaluator’s point of view, many projects are eliminated even before the technical analysis due to simple qualification flaws. Incomplete documentation, inconsistency with social purposes, or absence of mandatory requirements are fatal errors. Here is a direct piece of advice: technical excellence does not compensate for compliance failures. Qualification is binary; it either complies or it does not. Therefore, structuring internal processes to ensure compliance is as important as developing innovation.

In the merit stage, some factors make all the difference. Clarity in defining the problem and the solution, methodological coherence, a qualified team, and a well-defined market potential are decisive. But there is a critical point that many neglect: economic subsidies finance technological risk, not market risk. Projects need to demonstrate real technical uncertainty, a mitigation plan, and a clear evolution of the level of technological maturity. Balance is key: too little risk seems like mere business execution, excessive risk without strategy seems unfeasible.

Finally, the most strategic recommendation: align your project with the call for proposals as if it had been designed specifically for that call. Use the language of the call, explicitly state your objectives, and demonstrate complete adherence. In addition, invest in the narrative, as evaluators are human and decisions depend on their performance.

United Nations Global calls out to Creatives to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

According to the UN, people have the power to change the world and the UN needs support to stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). World Health organizations (WHO) is leading and coordinating the global health response to countries. Helping the countries to prevent, detect and respond to the pandemic. It will be more effective if people from everywhere adopt public health precautions, act in solidarity and prevent the spread of misinformation.

According to the findings of the special edition of the Creative Economy Report “Widening local development pathways”, co-published by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) through the UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) in the 21st century, creativity and innovations have become the true wealth of nations, both at individual and group levels.

World Creativity and Innovation Day April 21 (WCID) was founded by Marci Segal on May 25, 2001, in Toronto, Canada.

The purpose of World Creativity and Innovation Day was, and still is, to remind and encourage people to use their creativity to make the world a better place and to make their place in the world better too.

April 21, the day before Earth Day, April 22, was chosen as World Creativity and Innovation Day to emphasize the importance of using new thinking to create a decent life for all on a sustainable planet.

April 21 is a placeholder in time to give people a reason and opportunity to use imagination productively, to release new thinking, and to celebrate that.

2017: World Creativity and Innovation Day, April 21 Become a United Nations International Day of Observance.

On April 27, 2017, the United Nations resolved to include World Creativity and Innovation Day, April 21 as a Day of Observance to encourage people to use creativity in problem-solving for all issues related to achieving the 2015 Sustainable Development Goals. 2018 marks the first year the UN will observe WCID.

The Global Innovation Field Trip, partnering with the internationally known Vickathon program, have launched the April “How to Slow Climate Change with Innovative Ideas” international hackathon.

Participating in an international hackathon offers students a plethora of benefits that extend beyond just innovation skills. Firstly, such events foster diversity by bringing together individuals from various cultural, educational, and professional backgrounds. This diversity enriches the problem-solving process by introducing different perspectives and approaches to tackling challenges.

On 11 May 2023 in Nairobi, the throbbing heart of East African innovation, the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI) and WIPO took a giant leap to support local inventors. These institutions teamed up to launch the Inventor Assistance Program (IAP) in Kenya. The Program puts patent protection within reach of individuals and small businesses.

Each year, more than 300 Kenyan inventors apply for patent and utility model protection. The most recent Global Innovation Index points to tremendous potential, with Kenyan innovation outputs outperforming levels of investment for the 4^th year in a row. However, relatively few of these ideas make it through the patent system. Many local inventors represent themselves before the patent office and get stuck on the technicalities. The IAP stands to change that, providing professional support and the opportunity for Kenyan inventors to have their ideas evaluated on their merits.

“Patents and other intellectual property help inventors and businesses attract investments, scale up, and compete on a global stage,” said Allison Mages, Head, IP Commercialization Section, IP for Business Division, IP and Innovation Ecosystems Sector, WIPO. “The partnership between KIPI and WIPO will allow inventors to secure rights within Kenya and beyond.” Through the IAP’s global network of volunteers, inventors currently benefit from pro bono support in other IAP participating countries as well as Europe and the United States.

Volunteers who donate their time to the Program reap huge dividends too. As David Kappos, Partner, Cravath, Swaine & Moore s – the IAP Steering Committee Chair, shared, “from my experience, the person who gets the most benefit out of this Program is the attorney preparing the patent application.” Volunteers get many opportunities, like meeting potential clients, building professional networks and technical skills, he explained.

Building these skills is another focus of the KIPI-WIPO growing partnership. In January this year, KIPI agreed to recognize the International Patent Drafting Training Program. Kenyan participants receive a professional certificate after successfully completing the 8-month hands on training program. As demand for the IAP and local patent professionals grow, the two organizations will use both programs to enhance Kenya’s innovation ecosystem.

Kenya’s innovation-powered future is bright. The launch celebrated potential, with representatives from Magna Quest, Gavo Foods and Hello Tractor, sharing their journey. Each described the essential role patents played in the growth of their ventures and expressed the massive benefit the IAP could deliver.

The Program’s impact could be felt immediately. Inventors attending the launch had the chance to discuss their inventions with one of the Programs 16 local volunteers. These consultations are expected to lead to Kenya’s first IAP beneficiaries.

The IFIA’s Startups Department is an IFIA initiative that aims to help Inventors to have the possibility to both, create a Startup from his/her invention or connect with one to create synergy and
improve the chances to sell, license, or be a CEO or partner of a Startup and, in this way, make the journey to take his/her invention to the market easier, to be successful, and make profits.No doubt this initiative will be one of most innovative and disruptive of the IFIA’s history.

In the IFIA logo, we are faced with many signs and metaphors that create meanings in the audience’s mind, both hidden and visible. The logo font consists of two parts; The word “i”, which is a slightly easy and playful font, and the word fia, which are dry, structured, and more logical. In general, fonts have the meaning and feeling that there is an organization where playful and brave ideas are combined in a logical and scientific structure. Here, no idea is suppressed, but a situation is created for it that can find objectivity in scientific trial and error.

In the logo, we see that a square shape is used. In general, the square symbolizes science, logic, and stability. Therefore, placing the logo in a square shape is a metaphor for the presence of thinking, science, and reasoning in an inventor’s mental process. Of course, this organization’s emphasis is on the fact that invention is a scientific process. Of course, this is not the end of the story. If we look closer, we can see that only the letter “i” is inside the square. An innovative cut and excellent separation of this word from the word IFIA.

This separation is a kind of entry into the personalization of the story. The letter “I” has a metaphor for (me). (I) in the sense that every inventor has a unique and special personality of his own with all the life experiences, concerns, and issues that he is involved with in life and the contemporary world, and it is from them that he thinks and His questions enter. That is why the questions of one inventor are different from another. The placement of the word “i” separately is a metaphor for the fact that the organization of inventors strongly emphasizes the uniqueness of the inventor and has mechanisms and laws that support this inventor.

After explaining the basic structure of the logo, we will discuss another hidden form inside the logo. Rectangular shape! If we continue the sides of the square to the end of the word IFIA, we get a rectangle. In other words, the square becomes a rectangle, and we know that the rectangle moves and expands in proportion to the square. Therefore, we feel a kind of movement, dynamism, and search due to the hidden presence of the rectangle within the geometric structure of the logo. The next issue is color composition. The blue square is a metaphor for dynamism, and the letter “i” is white, which is a metaphor for the freedom of the inventor’s thoughts and ideas and the lack of domination by the organization’s oppression over the inventor. This position is more evident in the choice of the color of other words of this logo, where the neutral gray color is used, and this means; The organization is next to the inventor and supports him in such a way that the inventor does not get any annoyed feelings from this support. The International Order of Merit of the Inventors – IOMI is an international civil decoration of inventors and their supporters that is awarded for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding invention activity, services, and achievements.

The motto of the IOMI is: “INVENT AND SERVE”.

IOMI was established by the President of the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations on 15^th January 2008.

This decoration is issued in four award degrees: Knight – Officer – Commander – Grand Master

Degrees and Criteria

Knight

The Knight must be the inventor (who has patented invention and/or patent application) and he/she has minimum of ten patented inventions or he/she has an invention which has been awarded by minimum tree international invention forums. Moreover, his/her invention shall not be harmful to the environment based on a proposal prepared by an adequate IFIA member organization. The Knight is a member of the Chapter of the IOMI.

Officer

The Officer must be the inventor who represents and helps inventors. Moreover, he/she contributes to the appreciation of inventors at national and international levels, based on a proposal prepared by an IFIA ExCo member. Commander

The Commander must be a well-known person who represents invention and the inventor movement. Moreover, he/she contributes to the enhanced appreciation of inventors at national and international levels, based on a proposal prepared by a majority of IFIA ExCo members. The Commander is a member of the Grand Chapter of the IOMI.

Grand Master

The Grand Master is the President of IFIA who considers decorations based on the proposals and he/she confers the decorations. The Grand Master represents the IOMI. The Grand Master must register the awarded persons, and this registration shall be proclaimed.

Chapter and Grand Chapter

The Chapter is the assembly of the knights, officers, and commanders, which is an ethical community. The Grand Chapter consists of officers and commanders. This is a body, which is the ethical court of IOMI, competent to exclude a member. The Chairman of chapters is the Grand Master.

The award ceremony must be a ceremonial public event connected to an international inventor exhibition or conference.

 Árpád Bogsch

Dr. Árpád Bogsch (February 24, 1919, Budapest, Hungary – September 19, 2004, Geneva, Switzerland was a Hungarian turned American international civil servant. Dr. Bogsch began his professional career in 1942 as an attorney in Budapest. In 1948, he moved to Paris as a legal officer at the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Copyright Division. In 1954 he took up a post as a legal counselor at the US Copyright Office in Washington, D.C., and became an American citizen in 1959.

Bogsch was the Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) from 1963 to 1997, as well as serving as Secretary-General of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants. Under his direction, WIPO expanded its role and influence in the world of industrial and intellectual property. Bogsch launched a multitude of groundbreaking initiatives, notably by advocating the conclusion and revision of numerous international treaties, launching an ambitious program of assistance to developing countries, modernizing the system for the international registration of marks, creating the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre, and presiding over the baptism of ATRIP, a world association of intellectual property teachers and researchers. He was also the father of the Patent Cooperation Treaty. In addition, he contributed extensively to providing China with a modern intellectual property system and welcoming it into the international intellectual property community. Based on the number and type of patents the score giving differs. 0 is considered for an invention without patent, 1 for an invention with one national patent, 2 for two national patents, 3 for one PCT and one national patent, and 4 for an invention with one national, one international (EPO, USPTO), and one PCT.

2. Is the invention green or eco-friendly?
The invention is evaluated considering its impact on the environment. In case the invention causes pollution, 0 will be granted to it. 1 is considered an invention that does not cause any pollution. Regarding the extent of mitigating pollution, the jury should allocate a number between 2 to 4.

3. At what stage of development is it? Is it a Poster? Poster with a 3D image? Animated film? Prototype made? Is an invention ready for the market?
Exactly like the order which is given in the question, the score of 0 is devoted to Poster, 1 to Poster with 3D image, 2 to the animated film, 3 to Prototype, and 4 to an invention ready for market.

4. Has the invention been granted scientific certification?
Some of the inventions do not require scientific certification; in this case, the jury must review the possibility of putting the claimed invention into practice. If the invention needs a scientific certification, then regarding the validity and the number of certifications, a score between 0 and 4 is dedicated to the invention.

5. Is there a public demand for the invention?
The popularity of invention should be estimated by the jury. If the invention is seasonal or it can be used in limited geographical territories, the lower score will be devoted to it.

6. Does the invention involve high technology?
The jury members are required to evaluate the extent of technologies applied in the invention. A higher score will be allotted to an invention in which modern technologies have been utilized.

7. Is the invention more useful than the existing products?
Depending on the extent of innovation used in the invention in comparison to the available products in the market, a score within the range of 0 to 4 must be granted to the invention.

8. Does the invention have an economic impact or potential for economic impact?
The jury members should estimate how much the commercialization of this invention can be income rising and accordingly rate the invention.

9. Is the invention ready to be commercialized?
The possibility of invention commercialization shall be evaluated and rated by the Jury between 0 and 3. In case it has the Feasibility Study Report, the score of 4 must be considered for it.

10. Has the invention been awarded an international prize?
Considering the number of international awards, as well as their importance, the invention will be rated.
