The IFIA-ABIPIR LATAM Office proudly highlights the success of the first phase of the 15th edition of InnovaCities – International Fair of Smart, Happy, Human and Resilient Cities, a landmark initiative dedicated to fostering sustainable innovation, international collaboration, and impactful solutions for global challenges.

This first stage, focused on academic and institutional engagement, brought together representatives from Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay in a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment. The program featured the Smart Cities and Innovation Ecosystems Forum, an Academic Exhibition of Innovative Projects, and a special Women’s Entrepreneurship Meeting, creating a vibrant platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and partnership building.

The Academic Exhibition showcased the work of researchers, academic inventors, and startups presenting innovative and practical solutions across diverse sectors. These contributions reinforced the role of science, technology, and entrepreneurship in addressing real-world challenges with creativity and impact.

Once again, NAPI Trinacional is making its presence felt at Innova Cities, the event that brings together diverse stakeholders from the tri-national region to discuss the challenges, opportunities, and perspectives of urban development.

A unique space for exchange and collective building, allowing us to envision the present and future of our cities from an integrated perspective shared by Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay.

Participants included council members from Puerto Iguazú, municipal officials from the four towns (Foz, Ciudad del Este, Franco, and Puerto), and national deputies (Argentina). Representatives from five universities in the region, members of three development councils and Codetri, students, and businesspeople were also present.

A particularly inspiring moment was the Women’s Entrepreneurship Meeting, where entrepreneurs shared experiences, strengthened networks, and expanded opportunities for collaboration and visibility of their businesses, reinforcing the importance of inclusion and diversity in innovation ecosystems.

The International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA), in collaboration with ABIPIR and international partners, proudly participated in InnovaCities 2026, held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. The event brought together key stakeholders from across the Trinational Region (Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina), reinforcing the importance of innovation, entrepreneurship, and international cooperation.

A central highlight of the event was the Smart Cities and Innovation Ecosystems Forum, which addressed the challenges and opportunities related to developing intelligent and sustainable urban environments. The second phase of InnovaCities will further expand its global reach, featuring the Regenerative and BRICS Technological Innovations Exhibition and the BRICS Video Competition, reinforcing its commitment to international cooperation and future-oriented innovation.

IFIA-ABIPIR organized a grant funding training for innovators in Brazil to support startups and researchers.
The event brought together Startup Inventors, Entrepreneurs, and Academic Researchers eager to seek knowledge because, however innovative an invention or project may be, they do not achieve success without financial resources.

Aligned with the guidelines of IFIA, led by President Alireza Rastegar, ABIPIR has been contributing to the success of thousands of Inventors, Scientists, and Entrepreneurs over its 15 years.

The Startup Day – Sebrae held in Vilhena – Rondônia, Brazil, an event that takes place simultaneously in several cities throughout Brazil, addressed the theme of the journey of raising funds – what really increases your chances of approval.

The Director of the Latin American Office of IFIA-ABIPIR, Marcelo Vivacqua, was the speaker at the Startup Day organized by Sebrae – the Brazilian Service for Support to Micro and Small Businesses in Vilhena, a municipality with a thriving economy, talented entrepreneurs, and a population that offers a warm welcome to both Rondônia residents and visitors. The experience reinforced something essential: raising funds for innovation goes far beyond technique; it requires mindset, strategy, and discipline.

ABIPIR will be celebrating 15 years of activities focused on the personal and professional development of Inventors, Scientists, and Entrepreneurs by providing free space for them to present their innovations at InnovaCities – International Fair of Smart, Cheerful, Humane, and Resilient Cities, through training such as the one that took place in Vilhena, international representation of Startups, companies, and Science, Technology, and Innovation institutions, among others.

Emerson Pinduca, business analyst and innovation interlocutor at Sebrae in Vilhena, brings in his speech the perspective that there is no lack of money, but rather a search for guidance on the part of entrepreneurial society. He also added that the participation of President Vivacqua guided, framed, and expanded the possibilities for the startups present to leverage their solutions more quickly. His presence in Vilhena was invaluable.

Vilhena was on the map of action for Startup DAY 2026 and could count on the valuable contribution of the President of ABIPIR, Marcelo Vivacqua, who was able to demonstrate to the entrepreneurs present the world of possibilities for putting their ideas into action through the calls for proposals.

The raising of non-refundable funds begins long before submission and ends long after approval. This was one of the central messages of the lecture: successful projects are not born from one-off opportunities, but from a structured mindset of continuous preparation. Thinking like a fundraiser means developing projects even before the calls for proposals open, organizing evidence, structuring methodologies, and aligning the proposal with public policies. Those who wait for the call for proposals to open are scrambling, those who are prepared have a head start.

One of the most provocative points was the deconstruction of myths that still discourage good projects. It is not true that only large companies are approved, nor that the process is political or unfeasible. The evaluation is technical, based on objective criteria and adherence to the call for proposals. Another recurring myth is believing that the project needs to be perfect: in practice, what is sought is maturity appropriate to the level of technological development and clarity in execution. Rejection does not mean failure, but rather valuable strategic feedback for the evolution of the proposal.

From the evaluator’s point of view, many projects are eliminated even before the technical analysis due to simple qualification flaws. Incomplete documentation, inconsistency with social purposes, or absence of mandatory requirements are fatal errors. Here is a direct piece of advice: technical excellence does not compensate for compliance failures. Qualification is binary; it either complies or it does not. Therefore, structuring internal processes to ensure compliance is as important as developing innovation.

In the merit stage, some factors make all the difference. Clarity in defining the problem and the solution, methodological coherence, a qualified team, and a well-defined market potential are decisive. But there is a critical point that many neglect: economic subsidies finance technological risk, not market risk. Projects need to demonstrate real technical uncertainty, a mitigation plan, and a clear evolution of the level of technological maturity. Balance is key: too little risk seems like mere business execution, excessive risk without strategy seems unfeasible.

Finally, the most strategic recommendation: align your project with the call for proposals as if it had been designed specifically for that call. Use the language of the call, explicitly state your objectives, and demonstrate complete adherence. In addition, invest in the narrative, as evaluators are human and decisions depend on their performance.

The IFIA–ABIPIR LATAM Office proudly participated in the graduation ceremony of the 2026 Founders Institute (FI) São Paulo cohort, a distinguished gala celebrating innovative entrepreneurs and emerging global startups. Representing the IFIA–ABIPIR LATAM Office, and serving as a Mentor, participation in this ceremony underscored the strong institutional collaboration between IFIA and the Founders Institute, based in Silicon Valley. FI is widely recognized as one of the world’s largest and most influential early-stage startup acceleration programs. This collaboration is formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering innovation-driven entrepreneurship worldwide.

The International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA), represented by its President Mr. Alireza Rastegar, together with ABIPIR – the Brazilian International Association of Inventors, Scientists, and Innovative Entrepreneurs  represented by its Founder and President Mr. Marcelo Vivacqua, share a common mission: to promote, encourage, and disseminate science, invention, technology, innovation, and business initiatives that generate meaningful solutions to global challenges and positively impact quality of life.

IFIA and ABIPIR warmly congratulate the newly graduated founders on this significant achievement. For more than three years, Mr. Marcelo Vivacqua has actively contributed to the Founders Institute program, mentoring startups in fundraising, intellectual property strategy, internationalization, and business modeling. While the entrepreneurial journey is demanding, the continuous growth and maturity of this innovation ecosystem remain deeply inspiring. During the ceremony, emphasis was placed on the importance of startups being born with a global DNA. Innovation must transcend borders to remain relevant and visible. As highlighted, Brazilian startups supported by ABIPIR have demonstrated remarkable international success, including outstanding performance at a major innovation exhibition in Croatia, where Brazilian participants received the highest number of awards proportionally among 30 countries. This achievement reinforces a clear message: global markets are eager for innovative solutions.

The role of formal international partnerships, including joint ventures, was also highlighted as a key driver of sustainable growth. Such collaborations enable technology transfer, accelerate business development, and support international expansion, while simultaneously facilitating soft-landing opportunities for foreign startups entering Brazil creating a strong and mutually beneficial innovation pathway.

For entrepreneurs considering participation in the next Founders Institute cohort, three compelling reasons stand out:

The IFIA-ABIPIR Office actively participated in the international online conference titled “Future Frontiers: Climate Resilience, Energy Geopolitics & Innovation Pathways for a Sustainable World.” During the session, Mr. Marcelo Vivacqua, Founder and President of ABIPIR the Brazil International Innovative Inventors, Scientists and Entrepreneurs Association, and Director of IFIA presented a comprehensive methodology designed to accelerate the development of the new climate economy. His presentation, “Innovation Pathways for Energy, Mobility, and Resilience,” highlighted actionable strategies for transforming innovative ideas into impactful solutions.

Mr. Vivacqua emphasized that this methodology is fully aligned with the policies of IFIA under the leadership of its President, Mr. Alireza Rastegar, who continues to champion global efforts encouraging inventors and entrepreneurs to apply their creativity and technical expertise toward addressing the world’s most urgent challenges.

The International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) highlights the active participation of its Latin America Office represented by the Brazil International Innovative Inventors, Scientists and Entrepreneurs Association (ABIPIR) in the Brazil–China Symposium on Eco-Civilization, held in São Paulo.

The event gathered high-ranking Chinese government officials, representatives of major institutions, experts from various sectors, and delegates from the São Paulo City Administration to strengthen bilateral cooperation in sustainable development and innovation. The symposium was part of the programming of ECO 30 (Climate Conference) held in Belém, Brazil, with this session being an additional event hosted in São Paulo.

A central topic of the symposium was the concept of Eco-Civilization, a state policy and philosophical framework formulated under the leadership of President Xi Jinping. This framework is based on two key principles:

• Scientific, technological, and innovation-driven development is essential for national progress and for addressing global challenges;
• Such development must occur without compromising the health, balance, and integrity of the natural environment.

This philosophy asserts that economic modernization and environmental preservation are not contradictory but mutually reinforcing objectives. It emphasizes the responsibility of nations to ensure that scientific and technological advancements improve human well-being while safeguarding ecosystems for present and future generations.

Under the leadership of IFIA President Alireza Rastegar, the federation remains fully committed to promoting inventions and technological solutions that generate social, economic, and environmental benefits.

2. BRICS Skills Development and Technological Innovations Competition – First Latin American Edition (2025)

In 2025, ABIPIR together with the BRICS Academy under the leadership of its President, Dr. Liu Zhenying will host the first-ever Latin American edition of this highly regarded competition.

 The initiative focuses on inclusive technological development, capacity-building, and green innovation as essential drivers of sustainable progress across BRICS and BRICS+ nations.

All project categories include planetary protection and environmental contribution as core evaluation criteria, reflecting complete alignment with Eco-Civilization values.

ABIPIR was the only Brazilian non-profit organization invited to participate in the symposium an acknowledgment of its international relevance and leadership in promoting sustainable technological development.

ABIPIR President Marcelo Vivacqua delivered a keynote presentation emphasizing:

• The strong support provided by IFIA to ABIPIR’s programs in Latin America;
• The importance of IFIA–BRICS Academy collaborations in fostering green and socially impactful innovation;

The participation of the IFIA–ABIPIR LATAM Office in the Brazil–China Symposium on Eco-Civilization reinforces IFIA’s global mission to promote innovation that serves humanity and protects the planet.

The 14th edition of InnovaCities – the International Fair of Smart, Joyful, Humane, and Resilient Cities, was successfully held from September 15 to 17, 2025, at the Recanto Cataratas Thermas Resort & Convention Center in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. Organized by ABIPIR – the Brazilian International Association of Inventors, Scientists, and Innovative Entrepreneurs, and supported by IFIA – the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations, the event gathered over 3,000 participants from 15 countries, including innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and representatives from academia, government, and industry.

InnovaCities 2025 stood out as a premier platform for presenting practical and scalable solutions addressing global urban challenges. More than 100 projects were exhibited in person and online through the InnovaCities Regenerative Innovation Competition and the BRICS Technological Innovation Competition, highlighting innovations in healthcare, education, sustainability, urban mobility, artificial intelligence, and governance.

The Regenerative Innovation Competition recognized projects that combined social, environmental, and economic regeneration principles. Eighty projects competed in five categories Urban Sustainability, Governance and Inclusive Public Policies, Resilient Cities, Diversity and Technology for Equity, and New Regenerative Economic Systems with winners receiving internationally recognized medals and IFIA certificates.

In parallel, the BRICS Technological Innovation Competition brought together 79 projects from countries including Brazil, China, India, New Zealand, Argentina, Turkey, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Uganda, Paraguay, Ecuador, Bangladesh, and Rwanda. The competition featured cutting-edge solutions in digital medicine, advanced manufacturing, green energy, artificial intelligence, and smart governance.

Complementing the competitions, the fair hosted the Latin American Artificial Intelligence Congress, which explored how AI can foster sustainable urban development across Latin America. The event attracted experts, academics, and entrepreneurs to discuss topics such as Education 4.0, Smart Cities, Renewable Energy, Governance for the Future, and Smart Tourism Destinations

Other activities included business roundtables organized by SEBRAE, connecting 48 startups and enterprises with potential investors and partners, and a series of workshops, panels, and lectures on sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The Foz do Iguaçu City Hall also participated actively, offering vaccination services, public consultations, and civic engagement initiatives aligned with the fair’s theme of humane and inclusive urbanism.

A significant educational component was achieved through the participation of more than 250 students from state and municipal schools, nurturing the next generation’s interest in science, innovation, and social responsibility.

The 38th International Exhibition of Inventions, New Technologies, and Industrial Design “Invention Week 2025” was successfully inaugurated at the Museum of Science and Technology in Belgrade on September 2, 2025.

This prestigious international event gathered innovators and researchers from 14 countries, presenting over 63 inventions that showcased the creativity and excellence of the global innovation community.

During the opening ceremony, distinguished guests, including Prof. Dr. Zeljko Zdravkovic, President of the Belgrade Association of Inventors, and Prof. Dr. Miljenko Šimpraga, President of the Croatian Association of Innovators, highlighted the vital role of innovation in driving economic growth and sustainable development.

With the aim of deepening bilateral relations between Brazil and China two nations with a long-standing history of collaboration across various domains the IFIA-ABIPIR Office in Latin America, under the coordination of its Head and Director of Education and Events, Mrs. Mariangela Lückmann, organized a high-level agenda to welcome the President of the BRICS Academy, Dr. Liu Zhenying.

The BRICS Academy, represented in Latin America by ABIPIR (Brazilian International Association of Inventors, Scientists, and Innovative Entrepreneurs), is a private, non-profit organization that has consistently promoted technological education through academic exchange programs and institutional partnerships. Among its key initiatives is the BRICS Technology Standardization Program, led by the “BRICS Committee of Experts,” which develops curricula, skill sets, and competition regulations for technological events.

Dr. Liu Zhenying began her visit in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, at the “City of Knowledge” (Cognopolis), an innovative scientific community founded by researcher Waldo Vieira (1932–2015). Next on the agenda was a visit to the Iguassu Valley innovation ecosystem, also located in Foz do Iguaçu. This forward-looking city is internationally recognized not only for its iconic natural wonders such as the Iguaçu Falls, one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World but also for its dynamic governance model that unites government institutions, academia, businesses, startups, development agencies, and innovation hubs.

A Letter of Intent was signed during this visit, aimed at fostering joint efforts in science, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The delegation also visited the Federal University for Latin American Integration (UNILA), where academic exchange and research collaboration opportunities were explored. A preliminary Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed as a framework for upcoming joint initiatives.

The final day of the visit included a strategic stop in Cascavel, a key industrial center in western Paraná. Meetings were held with government authorities, academic institutions, business leaders, and representatives of the BRICS Academy. Xiamen, China March 2, 2025 – From February 28 to March 2, 2025, the Belt and Road Initiative and BRICS Skills Development and Technological Innovation Competition in the field of Medicine and Health took place successfully at the BRICS Skills Development and Technological Innovation Research Institute in Xiamen. This event also marked significant progress in the formulation of competition regulations and standards and the establishment of the International Training Base for Future Technical Skills and Cultural Exchange Talents (BRICS Workshop). The event commenced with an insightful keynote address by Dr. Liu Zhenying, setting a forward-thinking tone for the conference. 

During the annual meeting of the Medicine and Health Committee under the Belt and Road Initiative and BRICS Skills Development International Alliance, key achievements of 2024 in the field of medical and health competitions were reviewed and recognized.

Additionally, the meeting facilitated the initiation of new subcommittees dedicated to advancing the sector. The Medicine and Health Committee, along with its subcommittees, outlined strategic plans for 2025, focusing on:

The IFIA-ABIPIR LATAM Office recently conducted a comprehensive course on fundraising for innovative projects, targeting entrepreneurs from traditional companies, startups, academic researchers, and public servants. This initiative emphasized the fundamental truth: while resources are abundant, the challenge lies in crafting well-designed projects to access them effectively.

This course aligns seamlessly with the vision of IFIA President, Mr. Alireza Rastegar, who consistently underscores the significance of fundraising in enabling inventors, entrepreneurs, and academic researchers to transform their ideas, inventions, and dreams into successful market-ready products.

As the Founder and President of ABIPIR, Director of the IFIA-ABIPIR LATAM Office, and a member of the IFIA Executive Committee, I had the honor of representing the IFIA-ABIPIR LATAM Office at the Recycling Week event hosted by Sistema Findes – Federation of Industries of Espírito Santo in Vitória, ES. Organized by Sinrecicla, this event featured technical lectures by renowned experts, a commercial exhibition showcasing innovative solutions, networking opportunities, and knowledge-sharing sessions. The focus was on accelerating business models that promote recycling and sustainable development in Espírito Santo.

In my capacity as a representative of the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) and ABIPIR – the Brazilian International Association of Inventors, Scientists, and Innovative Entrepreneurs, I conducted a mini-course on fundraising specifically tailored to the recycling sector. This mini-course brought together a talented group of participants, including businesspeople, government agents, and enthusiasts passionate about solving challenges in the recycling industry.

Over three hours of intensive hands-on activities, participants were introduced to the critical aspects of preparing proposals for economic subsidy programs. Topics covered included qualifying factors, eligibility and merit criteria, and effective pitch strategies. Drawing on my experience of securing over 35 million USD in funding, preparing subsidy notices, and evaluating projects, I guided participants as they formed teams to develop and present proposals in the form of pitches.

The session was a remarkable showcase of talent, proving that anyone, with focus, resilience, and an understanding of opportunity and proposal preparation, can secure funding to bring their innovative and sustainable ideas to life.

I extend my sincere gratitude to Mirela Souto, President of Instituto Marca—established by Marca Ambiental, a leading Brazilian company in sustainable solid waste processing—and to Andrea Araújo Reggian, whose exceptional organization of the event ensured its success.

I am confident that some course participants will soon celebrate securing economic subsidies to create, refine, and launch their innovative solutions in the waste processing sector. This progress underscores the importance of waste processing as a vital component of sustainable industry development.

Let us always remember: financial resources come first, then dreams. Without the necessary funding, it is impossible to turn solutions for global challenges into actionable realities.

The Conexão 8 event, held over three days, brought together experts from various fields to discuss strategies for mitigating the devastating effects of recent floods in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, located in southern Brazil. The primary goal was not only to address the immediate damage caused by the climate disaster but also to develop preventive measures to safeguard against future occurrences.

Several speakers and organizers visited some of the flood-affected areas, witnessing firsthand the devastation and becoming deeply moved by the tragic scenes they encountered.

1. Financial Support for Entrepreneurs: Assisting entrepreneurs from Rio Grande do Sul in submitting proposals for non-refundable financial subsidies from national and international sources, with the support of the IFIA-ABIPIR LATAM Office.
2. International Collaboration: Establishing strategic relationships with international stakeholders, such as those from the BRICS Academy, led by Dr. Liu, and represented in Brazil by the Brazil-China Cooperation Hub, to create tailored solutions for recovery.
3. Open Innovation Programs: Encouraging local governments to organize open innovation programs that identify challenges and invite startups to propose sustainable, customized solutions. Mr. Vivacqua’s expertise in this area stems from his experience as Undersecretary of Innovation for the Government of Espírito Santo, where he initiated the “Espírito Santo State Government Relationship Program with Startups – StartupES.”

Representing Bitavel Tecnologia, Mr. Alex Roberto Pereira showcased the current state of BIM technology in Brazil, demonstrating its applications in both industrial and educational sectors. Company owners, Mr. Flavio Tongo and Ana Paula Tongo, were also in attendance, further emphasizing the collaborative spirit.

Plans for future meetings are already underway, with the aim of exploring other emerging technologies within the same context. Currently, 48 technologies have been identified for review, with this list expected to grow as collaboration deepens.

The first event we attended was “Green Sampa,” organized by IEBT, where innovative startups focused on green technologies presented their projects to a panel of experts. IFIA, ABIPIR, and the Brazil-China Cooperation Hub were also represented. Other notable attendees included Marco de Biasi, Director of the Founders Institute, a valued collaborator.

The Green Sampa Acceleration Program encompasses various sustainability agendas and supports businesses that offer solutions within the green economy. This initiative provides financial backing, mentorship, and opportunities to participate in both national and international events in the socio-environmental business sector. Selected participants also gain residency at the Green Sampa Hub.

The program encourages the growth of sustainable, innovative businesses, particularly those led by youth from underserved areas of São Paulo. The second event, “Agro Nacional: Innovation, Investment, and Global Vanguard,” featured talks on Brazil’s leading innovation ecosystems within the agribusiness sector. Discussions covered investment opportunities and showcased startups offering cutting-edge solutions to the industry’s most pressing challenges.

Ensuring food security for all can only be achieved through the development of innovative technologies that boost agricultural productivity while adhering to sustainable practices. This aligns with the principles of the SDGs and ESG. Both IFIA and ABIPIR are committed to supporting initiatives that advance these objectives.

The recent floods in Rio Grande do Sul, a state located in the southern region of Brazil, have led to a devastating tragedy of enormous proportions. Heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding, engulfing homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure.

The human toll of this disaster is staggering, with a significant number of people losing their lives and countless others left homeless. The economic impact is equally severe, as many businesses have been forced to shut down, agricultural land has been destroyed, and essential services have been severely disrupted. The destruction caused by the floods has left numerous communities in a state of crisis, with residents facing the monumental task of rebuilding their lives and livelihoods.

Although the full extent of the damage is still being assessed, it is clear that this tragedy will have long-lasting consequences. The loss of life, displacement of people, and economic devastation will require a coordinated effort from government agencies, humanitarian organizations, and individuals to provide relief and support to those affected. As the recovery process begins, it is crucial to address the immediate needs of survivors and develop sustainable solutions to prevent future disasters of this nature.

In response to this, “Connection 8” has organized an event to assist in the reconstruction process of the Rio Grande do Sul State: “Circular Economy and Resilient Cities – Connecting with leaders and innovators shaping the sustainable future of Rio Grande do Sul!”

Mr. Marcelo Vivacqua, President and Founder of ABIPIR, Director of the IFIA-ABIPIR LATAM Office, and Founder and Director of the “Brazil-China Cooperation Hub,” will be participating in this important and innovative event with a noble goal: to support the rebuilding of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. Mr. Marcelo will present strategies to contribute to the reconstruction efforts, including fundraising initiatives to support entrepreneurs, providing training for entrepreneurs to apply for government grants, and identifying innovative technologies that meet the needs of flood-affected cities through the “Brazil-China Cooperation Hub.” Furthermore, he will assist cities in implementing open innovation processes to identify challenges and launch public calls for startups capable of solving these issues.

The Connection 8 conference aims to promote a comprehensive discussion on climate disasters in Rio Grande do Sul, focusing on the actions taken so far and the paths forward, while also showcasing available solutions and technologies. 

Key themes of the conference will include: risk management and natural disasters; resilient cities; circular economy; zero waste; governance and public policy; agribusiness; innovation and technology; and education and awareness.

This event will attract individuals concerned with sustainable development and effective public policy, including community leaders, government representatives, business professionals, academics, and engaged citizens interested in shaping the future of Rio Grande do Sul.

In an innovative and disruptive initiative by the IFIA-ABIPIR LATAM Office, the “Brazil-China Cooperation Hub,” with the full support of IFIA President Mr. Alireza Rastegar, was created and officially announced.

This project will feature a physical headquarters and a digital platform, aimed at facilitating the establishment of scientific, technological, innovation, education, and business partnerships among institutions, conventional companies, and startups from Brazil and China.

According to Mr. Marcelo Vivacqua, Founder and President of ABIPIR, Director in Latin America of IFIA, and Head of the Hub, the majority of attempts to establish partnerships and conduct business between Brazil and China fail due to nearly insurmountable barriers such as language, time zones, culture, and distance. Marcelo concludes that the only way to make these initiatives viable is through the physical presence of a team that can prospect opportunities, conduct visits, and monitor projects and businesses on an ongoing basis.

The launch of the Hub took place at the Institute of Technology and Leadership (INTELI), an innovative and inspiring space, which will be one of its future partners and was represented by Mrs. Flavia Santoro, Academic Director. The Technological Research Institute (IPT), an institutional partner of the IFIA-ABIPIR LATAM Office and a major reference in research and certification of industrial equipment in Latin America, was represented by Mr. Gabriel Poli de Figueiredo.

Innovative technological projects were presented by Chinese researchers present in the delegation and by several Brazilian researchers, with particular emphasis on the projects for the Hub’s partner, Maxi Science, led by CEO Danilo Melo, who also serves as Head of the IFIA-ABIPIR LATAM Office, Chapter São Paulo.

Also present were Mrs. Mariangela Lûckmann, Head of the IFIA-ABIPIR LATAM Office, Chapter Foz do Iguaçu, along with representatives from governments, research and innovation institutions, and startups.

The “Brazil-China Cooperation Hub” will have its Brazilian headquarters in São Paulo, an economic, financial, education, science, technology, and innovation center in Latin America, under the leadership of Dr. Marcelo Vivacqua. In China, it will be led by Dr. Liu Zhenying.

Regarding the Hub and its potential for partnerships and business opportunities between Brazil and China, Dr. Liu commented: “The ‘Brazil-China Cooperation Hub’ is of great significance to both sides. In parallel, the BRICS Technological Innovation Competition will bring together participants from BRICS and BRICS+ countries, presenting cutting-edge solutions in fields such as digital health, advanced manufacturing, green energy, artificial intelligence, and smart governance. The competition aims to promote technological collaboration and innovation among emerging economies.

An initiative led by the Entrepreneurial Mobilization for Innovation (MEI, acronym in Portuguese), the International Industry Innovation Summit is organized by the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI, acronym in Portuguese) and by the Brazilian Service of Support for Micro and Small Enterprises (Sebrae, acronym in Portuguese), in partnership with the Industry Social Service (SESI), the National Service for Industrial Training (SENAI) e Euvaldo Lodi Institute (IEL).

In each edition, the Summit brings together innovation experts from all over the world as well as entrepreneurs, government representatives, and academics, in the search for solutions and exchange of experiences on new paths for Brazilian industry innovation and policies to support research, development, and innovation (RD&I.)

The 10th edition of the Innovation Summit brings together, in person and virtually, people from all over the world in the search for solutions and to exchange of experiences about the latest in eco-innovation, a trend that is setting new parameters of sustainability and competitiveness for the industrial and business sectors.

From May, 31st to June, 2nd, 2023, ABIPIR held the INNOVACITIES – Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainability Show for Cheerful, Creative Human and Smart Cities, at the Rafain Palace Convention Center, in the city of Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, Brazil.
ABIPIR-IFIA held for the fourth consecutive year the edition of the Salón INNOVACITIES Trinacional at the 18th Festival das Cataratas, at the invitation of the organizer of one of the main tourism events in Brazil and Latin America. We were present with our partners, sponsors, and supporters, among them: Itai – Institute of Applied Technology and Innovation, Parimpacto; Sol Pedras Group, De Angeli Eventos e Empreendimentos; UNIOESTE – State University of Western Paraná; Western Paraná Regional Innovation System – Iguassu Valley; ACIFI – Commercial and Business Association of Foz do Iguaçu; Solutudo – Foz do Iguaçu.

A great success, the Festival das Cataratas was packed with more than 8,000 visitors from Brazil and Latin America, and the 4th INNOVACITIES Hall with entrepreneurs and representatives of institutions from the three countries, Brazil-Paraguay-Argentina, characterized the event by an international environment of uninterrupted challenges and solutions for the reality of the Trinational Region.

We have impact events at the 4th INNOVACITIES Hall, namely the 1st Itai Innovation Workshop, directly sponsored by Itaipu Binacional, bringing specialists in relevant debates on Intelligent Tourist Destinations (DTIs), as is the case of the Municipality of Foz do Iguaçu, connected as development, to the Municipal Council of Science, Technology and Innovation of Foz do Iguaçu (CMCTI).

The 2nd Trimpact Day also left lasting marks of impact, with the presence of B corporations (B Corps) from the Trinational Region, in the debate and emphasis on the successful experiences of companies from different niches, including startups and innovative ventures, in the generation of Positive Impact and Regenerative by B Lab, one of the main economic currents of this 21st Century.

The 11th Iguassu Conecta made noise and provoked many connections through targeted Networking, with face-to-face pitches and business roundtables, based on the mobilization of entrepreneurs, innovative entrepreneurs, investors, business entities, and the Academy.

In an innovative way, Parimpacto and the Sol Pedras Group brought, in partnership with ABIPIR, a sociocultural intervention, in the context of the Creative Economy, which blended tradition and Innovation, through the Ava Orígenes project, a co-creation movement of indigenous peoples, represented by the Ava Guarani, M’Bua, and Maka ethnic groups, which combined rustic materials produced by the region’s original peoples with the use of reverse logistics products from dimension stones, plastic art, and Automation in the context of lighting. This project, an initiative of the Sol Pedras Group, and curated by Parimpacto, had the partnership of Enerluz, an innovative company in the lighting sector, and the Brazilian artist Josiane Griesbach.

The INNOVACITES Fair once again marked, on Brazilian soil, the partnership to boost the territorial development of the tri-national region through Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Impact, with the support of the IFIA Board of Directors for Latin America.

The IFIA Startups Global Connection Program has gained a strong partner to fulfill the mission of connecting Startups from different countries within the IFIA platform, the InovAtiva hub.
The Hub has a series of products and programs for the entire Brazilian innovation ecosystem, from startup interference to connection events with ecosystem actors, making it a complete platform to support entrepreneurship in the Country.
InovAtiva is completing ten years in 2023 and has already contributed to the development of more than 3,500 innovative businesses across the country, impacting more than 14,000 entrepreneurs.
The IFIA Startups Global Connection Program with the support of InovAtiva will contribute to leveraging the business of Startups by identifying investors, customers, and business partners in other Countries through the selection for the composition of an international showcase of startups and holding events to connect with these potential partners, enabling thus its visibility and internationalization.

Like the IFIA Startups Global Connection Program, the program runned by InovAtiva in Brazil is free, equity-free, and run by local non-profit entities Fundação CERTI, ABStartups, and Impact Hub and offers methodological and project follow-up support, in partnership with the Wadhwani Foundation, in the Powered By InovAtiva program.
Currently, the Hub has the voluntary support of more than 1000 mentors and more than 50 leaders who, together with other relevant actors and members of the executing team, publicize manipulation cycles, training, events, open innovation laboratories, and business roundtables, in addition to several actions to regionalize opportunities, covering the most diverse demands of Brazilian ecosystems.
The IFIA Global Startups Connection Program, organized by the IFIA and carried out by the Latin American Office (LATAM) of IFIA-ABIPIR and the IFIA-Bharat Office in India, having as Coordinators Mariangela Lückmann, Director of the LATAM Office of IFIA-ABIPIR, Anand Kanan, Director of IFIA-BHARAT and Marcelo Vivacqua, member of the Executive Committee and Director of IFIA in LATAM will have the support of InovAtiva, represented by Amanda Ampessan Cavali, Manager of the events areas and InovAtiva community, to carry out the selection of 10 Startups Brazilians who will participate in the pilot project, in addition to disclosure on their official channels and joint realization of online presentations of Startups pitches.

The call for Startups to participate in the pilot project of the IFIA Startups Global Connection Program is scheduled to be launched in September, with 10 Brazilian Startups and 10 Indian Startups being selected based on pre-established criteria and the synergies identified in their business models and strategic scalability objectives that point to the possibility of establishing a “win-win” relationship.
The selected Startups will receive an international certificate that will correspond to a stamp of excellence from the IFIA-ABIPIR-InovAtiva that will serve as a facilitator to demonstrate greater resistance with investors, commercial partners, and customers.

After the validation and due improvements of the methodology of the Program completed with the completion of the pilot project, other calls will be made so that, year after year, the number of Startups connected can be increased and a reduction in the very high mortality rate will be perceived.

In a pioneering way, 7 BCorps from 5 Latin American countries shared, in Foz do Iguaçu, their successful cases (pitches) and discussed Companies with Purpose, those that invest their daily efforts to become better for the World. It was the first time that a Latin American panel with companies certified by the B / B Labs System took place in the Trinational Region (Brazil-Paraguay-Argentina). Success, the event provoked reactions of attractiveness about uniting in a strategic and pragmatic way, Profit and Impact in businesses linked to the generation of positive impact, circular economy, regenerative economy, and ESG. Representing Brazil: We.Flow (Paulo Cruz Filho), Parimpacto (Mariangela Lückmann) and Cambará Eco Hotel (Emiliano Brugnera); Paraguay: Ecological Solutions (Carlos Jara); Bolivia: Mamut (Ronald Gonzales); Colombia: Recover your Silla (Maria Angélica); and Venezuela: Brocicla (Fiorella Riveros).

Many reflections took place in the Panel “Zero Waste Cities & Trinational Region”, with representatives from Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. The high-level organization and mediation of the debate were in charge of Fátima Langbeck, from Instituto Lixo Zero Brasil. There was also a super pitch and debate with “Companies with Sustainable Practices” in the Trinational Region, coordinated by the ACIFI Sustainability Center.
And, for technological startups and those interested in angel investment, it was present at the 8th Iguassu Conecta an Iguassu Angels, the first association of angel investors in Foz do Iguaçu and western Paraná. With a super motivating focus, the President, Taiuska Lima and co-founders guided those present on how to get the first check for startups with scalability potential.
The Itaipu Technological Park presented, under the coordination of its Institute of Territorial Intelligence, an overview of the projects and actions of this Habitat of Innovation aimed at Sustainability in the year 2022, surprising those present by the diversity of projects, scope and depth of the approaches established for the territory of Western Paraná, as well as results.
A great success, crowded with entrepreneurs and representatives of institutions from the three countries, Brazil-Paraguay-Argentina, the event was characterized by an International environment of challenges and uninterrupted solutions for the reality of the Trinational Region.

In March of 2020, just about the time when Covid 19 was making its big debut in the United States, colleagues more than 640 miles apart reconnected and came up with an idea that would rapidly go global. Juli Shively and Jake Mendelssohn’s combined knowledge and skill in youth innovation forewarned them that Spring would typically be celebratory months for young innovators across the United States. However, with the pandemic racing through the U.S., challenges, contests and just about everything else were getting canceled. Shively and Mendelssohn decided to “invent” a new platform to celebrate young innovators and entrepreneurs called the Global Innovation Field Trip, GIFT for short.

Collaborating with their international connections, the event quickly became a global world-learning opportunity for students, where young people and program leaders are invited to present for 10 or 25 minutes, sharing their stories of innovation. Hosted live via zoom, simultaneously live streamed over YouTube, with all presentation videos added to the extensive innovation library on the GIFT website as a tool for educators and innovators around the world.
Recently celebrating their 12th event, GIFT has hosted more than 760 presentations, 1160 presenters from 56 countries. Hosting youth panel discussions, professional development sessions, student co-hosts, challenges, youth mashups and more, GIFT continues to evolve, inventing new ways to celebrate young innovators all over the world.

Scientific / technological project aimed at students with ID intellectual disability developed by students with high abilities/giftedness and teachers from Espírito Santo represents Brazil in the Global Innovation Field GIFT.
The project developed by the teachers and students of the EEEM “IRMÁ MARIA HORTA” in Vitória – ES – Brazil, having as PROF./TRAINER: Luiz Gustavo Gomes and the Students:
Luisa Lamego Rodrigues – 2V technical; Thiago Xavier Santos -2V coach; Miguel Batista de Sousa Borges – 1V1 technical; Pedro Henrique Tardin Deps – Technical 1V1 was presented at the Global Innovation Field Program – GIFT.

The project “Pedagogical technology: development of educational digital games for students with intellectual disabilities” represented Brazil and was part of a select group of 15 countries and was the subject of much praise and caused extreme admiration for its relevance as a powerful, inclusive and innovative educational tool.

Congratulations to Professor Luis Gustavo and all the students for their brilliant work and to the Management of EEEM “IRMÁ MARIA HORTA” for supporting initiatives like these.

The project was designed with the objective of helping the student with ID – intellectual disability, in the learning processes from pedagogical practices in a playful way, creating an atmosphere that facilitates the understanding of high school subjects in a simple and objective way. Using technologies through a variety of digital games such as quiz, memory game, quizzes, word searches, crosswords, math generator, among others, where there are in some of the games with association of images, which will help in the understanding of the questions and direct the teacher to share the contents to be taught.

As a representative of the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) in Latin America and founder and President of the Social Organization Brazil International Association of Inventors, Scientists and Innovative Researchers – ABIPIR, I fulfill the role initiated in 2011 of contribute to learning, technical training in science, entrepreneurship and innovation among young people, inventors and entrepreneurs and, in this way, fulfill my purpose of leaving a legacy of value.

During this period in which ABIPIR has organized 13 editions of the International Fair of Applied Science, Inventions, Innovations and Business – InnovaCities, workshops and courses aimed at Inventors, Scientists and Entrepreneurs, we have always had the support and unconditional seal of IFIA, the largest of innovation in the world and represented in more than 70 countries, in the person of its President Alireza Rastegar, responsible for the most successful and innovative management in the history of the institution

The regional headquarters is managed by two of the most prominent entrepreneurs Mr. Vishwas U S Rao, Regional Director and Mr. Abhishek Bhandary, Director for outreach who will report to the National HQ of IFIA ABIPIR in Bangalore headed by Mr. Anand Kannan.

The region has lot of educational institutes where brilliant minds are churning out innovative solutions which are used within the region and some of the innovations like portable refrigerator for vaccines are now being rolled out to hit the global markets.

The International Federation of Inventors’ Association – IFIA and Brazil International Innovative Inventors, Scientists and Entrepreneurs Association – ABIPIR supported the Centelha Program, which focuses on supporting the creation of new innovative businesses to expand and improve Brazil’s Innovation Ecosystem.

In the State of Espírito Santo, the largest initiative in support of the program was coordinated by the University of Vila Velha – UVV, one of the icons of the higher education, research and innovation sector in Brazil.

Professor Doctor Alessandro Coutinho Ramos, Director of Research and Graduate Studies at UVV coordinated the series of preparatory workshops offered to the institution’s students.

IFIA/ABIPIR contributed by the endorsement of the initiative through the application of ideation workshops for hundreds of students that were carried out synchronously and also made available for viewing through access to the Youtube channel.

The ideation workshops – the first phase of the innovation process – which are made up of approaching the knowledge of the target audience, identifying and validating their challenges, and unlocking creativity to create innovative solutions for them and their subsequent validation, were given by the Director of IFIA in Latin America and President of ABIPIR, Professor Dr. Marcelo Vivacqua.

More than 600 students and professors have participated in person in the launching of the program as is possible to be seen in the video attached to this news and other thousands remotely by Internet access.

Once again, we would like to thank the Festival das Cataratas for their warm welcome to ABIPIR-IFIA in this fundamental event in Foz do Iguaçu, the destination of the world.
The 2nd Iguassu Conecta was also held at the same time, and there were uninterrupted in-person pitches, debates and lectures on innovation and territorial reinvention of geographic regions in Foz do Iguaçu, based on the mobilization of entrepreneurs, innovative entrepreneurs and business entities. Startupers from eight different regions participated, through the Ministry of Tourism of Brazil, in addition to entrepreneurs from Paraguay, through ADIRI. We had the brilliant participation of innovative experts in international interactive lectures on Technological Management Solutions (TOTVS), Creative Economy (ADIRI-Open Museum and Itaipu Binacional Paraguay), Edutech (Uniamérica-Descomplica), and Professional Networking (BNI).
In an innovative way, ADIRI and Museo Abierto brought, in partnership with ABIPIR, artistic intervention in the context of Creative Economy, which mixed tradition and innovation, through the work of Paraguayan artist Marcelo Chaparro, who joined rustic materials produced by indigenous peoples of the region to the use of 3D printing and painting techniques on canvas, in the making of three works of art live, during the event, and which will be auctioned in 2022 with its proceeds aimed at rescuing the culture and business of these communities through of exhibitions in the Trinational Region.
The objective of this event was to continue the actions of INNOVACITIES, in a context of profound adversity and necessary adaptation in light of the worldwide pandemic of the new coronavirus. We marked the representation of the essential Innovation event in a year of impact for the planet. In particular, the INOVACIDADES Hall marked once again, on Brazilian soil, the partnership to boost the territorial development of the tri-national region through Innovation and Entrepreneurship with a strong base of sustainability, between ABIPIR and ADIRI, with the support of the Board of Directors of IFIA for Latin America. The Self–Leadership and Innovative Business Program created by the International Brazil Association of Inventors, Scientists and Innovative Entrepreneurs – ABIPIR and coordinated jointly with the International Federation of Inventors‘ Associations – IFIA‘s main purposes:

1. Promote the training of independent inventors and those linked to educational institutions, research, innovation and companies, students and teachers on topics related to personal and professional development, such as self-leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation, increasing the chances of success in the process of transforming an idea or invention in a profitable and sustainable business by increasing the attractiveness of investors (angel investors, venture capitalists, companies and governments).

2. Enable the connection between inventors with investors, startups, companies and governments from different countries, in addition to attracting investments, forming scientific–technological and innovation partnerships to develop solutions together.

3. Contribute to increasing the disclosure of IFIA‘s actions, giving it greater visibility as well as the institutions that are part of it through the videos that will be posted on the ALINOVA Program platform on youtube and shared on other social media such as Facebook,Instagram, tweeter and Tiktok.

4. Facilitate the process of publicizing the challenges that will be launched on the open innovation platform SPARKINOV, managed by an Indian startup, which will have a formal partnership with IFIA and ABIPIR.
