LATIN AMERICAN OFFICE OF IFIA-ABIPIR LAUNCHES A NEW CHAPTER IN RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL
The Latin American Office of IFIA-ABIPIR has taken a significant step in its mission to expand operations across the region by launching a new chapter in Rio de Janeiro, famously known as the “Marvelous City.” Renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, Rio is also a hub for multinational corporations and key governmental institutions, making it an ideal location for this strategic initiative.
Mr. Marcelo Vivacqua, the Founder and President of ABIPIR and Director of the LATAM IFIA-ABIPIR Office, appointed Mr. Robson Sheeny as the Head of the Rio de Janeiro Chapter. Mr. Sheeny brings an impressive background in international business management, competitive intelligence, business strategy, complex negotiations, and international marketing. He holds a Master’s degree in International Business Management from Getúlio Vargas College. His extensive expertise and leadership are expected to drive the new chapter’s growth.
In addition to leading the Rio de Janeiro Chapter, Mr. Sheeny will manage initiatives under the “Brazil-China Cooperation Hub” a program created and overseen by ABIPIR. This expansion now brings the IFIA-ABIPIR LATAM Office’s presence in Brazil to three key locations: São Paulo, led by Mr. Danilo Melo; Foz do Iguaçu, led by Mrs. Mariangela Lückmann; and the newly established chapter in Rio de Janeiro.
First Key Initiatives and Collaborations
The first initiative under the leadership of Mr. Sheeny focused on fostering collaboration between the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) and the BRICS Academy. ABNT, a founding member of ISO, has been instrumental in developing over 9,000 technical standards, 30% of which have become international benchmarks. ABNT is currently contributing to the creation of global standards on ESG and carbon neutrality metrics, among other critical projects. More details about ABNT and its activities can be found at: https://abnt.org.br/.
The BRICS Academy, coordinated by Dr. Liu Zhenying in China, continues to drive technological standardization within BRICS nations. More information can be accessed at:

Mr. Mario William Esper, President of the ABNT Deliberative Council, and Mr. Marcelo Vivacqua participated in the BRICS Academy Seminar, which highlighted advancements in 49 technologies included in the BRICS Standardization Committee. A video of this seminar is available here: Presentation Video.
